Happy Mother's Day!

The Best Job in the World!

By Sue Peterson, Publisher Mom Chico Macaroni Kid May 8, 2013
Motherhood is often exhausting, frustrating, and totally overwhelming.  But it also full of joy and fun and incredible love.  I waited a long time to have a child and there were times when I didn't know if I would have one.  But, the last four years has convinced me that this was meant to be.  I can't imagine what my life would be like without my daughter.

So, although Mother's Day is a time for our families to honor us, the mothers, grandmothers, aunts who are like mothers - whoever plays that maternal role - it is also a time for us to reflect on the role we play in other's lives and how lucky we are to have that meaningful relationship with children.

In addition, others also have incredibly important relationships with our children: teachers!  This week is Teacher Appreciation Week and we have some ideas for some DIY gifts you can do for the teachers in your child's life.  I know that I am so thankful to have found Jeni at Creative Outlets Preschool!  She has provided my daughter with as much love and support away from home as we could give her at home and the friends she has made there are wonderful.  So, thanks Jeni for all you do!

Finally, the month of May offers a bevy of outdoor activities, despite the strange June-gloom like weather.  It is a great month for enjoying these activities before the high heat of summer hits us and we all want to soak in our air conditioned homes during the day.  So, get out and enjoy a park for a good cause, a festival, or a bicycle ride while you still can truly enjoy it!  You may even need a sweater out there!

Next week, I will be featuring some Memorial Day ideas for celebrations, some regional places to visit with the extra day off, and of course, ways to recognize the importance of what the holiday represents.  So, tune in then.

Please welcome my new "Mom-owned Business" advertisers for the month of May - Kristine's PaperCutz and Kristine Privett Photography.  I encourage you to check their businesses out for your needs.  And if you own or know of a mom who owns a business, let them know that they can advertise for free this month on the Chico Macaroni Kid website (sidebar ads on the newsletter) and get a free listing with logo (usually a $20 fee for logo) on our Biz Directory page!  But, they have to contact me in the month of May - Mom's month!  In June, I will be open to dad-owned businesses!  So, let them know as well!

Enjoy!  And please be sure to visit me over on Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest as well!
