When and Where to See Fireworks in Butte County

Chico, Oroville, and Biggs are going to light up the night sky this 4th of July!

By Jillian Smith - Editor & Publisher June 29, 2023

The 4th of July is right around the corner. Let's get ready to celebrate! Independence Day is such a fun time to fire up the grill, put on your favorite red, white, and blue Americana swag, and party with family and friends.

There's nothing like seeing a professional, safe, and well-organized fireworks display. The look of awe and wonder on the kids' faces is priceless!

Luckily for us, we have a few options to choose from here in Butte County: in Chico, Oroville, and Biggs. Here are the details plus some extra info to help everyone have a great time.

Chico

Silver Dollar Speedway

2357 Fair Street

The show begins after the races finish: around 9:30 - 10:00 pm.

If you are not attending the races, there are plenty of decent places to park and enjoy the show. Getting there early to get a spot and go shopping can be fun, but it'll be really hot this year so be prepared.

There are a lot of families who bring all kinds of fun things along with them to be festive and pass the time. Camping chairs, Bluetooth speakers, glow sticks, bubbles, snacks and drinks, even air mattresses for truck beds. You will be there for a while!

Anticipate everyone trying to get out of the various parking lots at the same time after the grand finale. If you can leave early or stay late it may be worth it.

Really anywhere that you can park close to and facing the fairgrounds should be just fine. Here are popular spots that are more social.

Costco

Walmart

Community Park

Kohl's

Oroville

Oroville Airport

225 Chuck Yeager Way

The show begins 30 minutes after sunset.

Here is more info and some maps with tons of options for parking to enjoy the fireworks while they light up the night!

Gold Country Casino

4020 Olive Highway

This one is a bit of a gamble (sorry... I had to!), but rumor has it this is a great spot to see fireworks from when it gets dark all the way until midnight! If there is a show, it is not affiliated with the casino. Gold Country just happens to be an ideal place to park to see them. If you choose to park here, I hope it pays off!

Biggs

Biggs Hometown Celebration

This annual event runs all day starting with a Pancake Breakfast at Biggs Community Hall - 280 B Street - at 7:00 am.

Then there's a Parade on B Street through downtown at 11:00 am.

Finally the MAIN EVENT at Biggs High School - 3046 2nd Street, on the Football Field - starts at 6:00 pm with vendors, water slides, food, live music, and of course, fireworks!

Did I miss anything? Email me here at mackidchico@macaronikid.com and let me know! It's surprisingly challenging to find information about most of the local fireworks shows beyond word-of-mouth recommendations. You can also submit an event here anytime and if it's kid, family, or date-night friendly I will add it to my calendar.

I hope you and your family stay safe and cool this week, and that you enjoy celebrating America's Independence responsibly! Happy Fourth!
